Registering
Domains for Clients
As a reseller, you can offer domain name registration to your clients.
In order to do this, simply fill out the Domain
Registration Form which will send us the request for registration.
The charge for the registration ($11.99/year) will be charged to your
account. If you prefer to have another credit card billed for this charge,
please specify this on the form.
Billing
Contact Information
For domains that you are registering on behalf of a client, please
be sure of the contact information you specify for the Billing Contact.
The contact that is stated as the Billing Contact will receive an email
and/or phone call from us at the time of domain name renewal. If you
wish to keep us transparent from your client, even as a registrar, it
is advised to put your information as the Billing Contact.
Domain
Name Renewals/Updates
When information needs to be changed on the domain record, or the
domain needs to be renewed, login to your account management area or request access from tech support.
Reseller
Domain FAQ's
Can
I just register my client's domain name when I add the domain to my
Reseller account?
While you can select the "New Domain" option in the order
form, most Resellers prefer to submit the New Domain Registration form.
If you select to have the domain name registered through the order form,
our technical contact and nameserver information will be used and your
Reseller information will be used as the Owner, Admin, and Billing Contacts
for the domain. You will probably want to specify the contact information
as well as nameservers.
Can
VP charge my client's credit card directly?
Yes. When you submit the New Domain Registration form or the Update/Renewal
form, please specify the credit card that should be charged for the
registration. Note that Visual Presence, Inc. will show up on the credit
card statement, which will not keep us transparent to your client.
What
happens if my customer contacts you directly regarding the domain registration?
Since we are a registrar as well as a web host, we are obligated to
honor requests by the owner/contacts of the domain. Therefore, if your
client is listed as the domain owner, admin, billing, or technical contact,
we must honor any changes requested in fulfillment of our role as a
domain registrar. In the event that your client is the owner of the
domain and requests to change their nameservers (thereby changing their
web host), if you are listed as the Admin or Technical Contact, you
will be notified of this situation via email.
If you
do not wish to have your client able to contact us in any way, their
information should not appear in the domain record. Note that many clients
are not comfortable with having the Reseller's information as the owner
as this would not give them legal ownership to the domain. You can bypass
this problem by setting up an domain registration agreement with your
client in which you formally agree that you give them rights to the
domain. For more information about domain ownership, please see Domain
Registrations.
Can
I save money by renewing my client's domain name through Visual Presence?
If the domain name is currently registered at Network Solutions, we
can request the transfer of the domain name into our registrar database.
This means that Visual Presence would become the new registrar of the
domain name and would therefore be the point of contact for all future
changes and renewals. Please note that the transfer request requires
a confirmation from the Admin Contact on file which means that Visual
Presence may not remain transparent to your client. You may want to
update the Admin Contact information to yours before requesting the
transfer.
Please note that there must be at least
60 days of registration remaining at the time of the transfer request.
Please
see Domains for more
non-reseller information.
